Dr. Neil Hutton
Dr. Neil Hutton has enjoyed a long and very successful career as a petroleum geologist and executive and has well served our profession through his active involvement with the CSPG. He is a very worthy recipient of an Honorary Membership with the CSPG.
Neil was born in Strathaven, Scotland in 1934 and grew up in Glasgow where he attended the University of Glasgow and obtained a B.Sc. in Geology in 1956. On graduation, Neil joined the Ghana Geological Survey and was involved in mapping the African Shield and searching for commercial mineral deposits. In 1960 Neil returned to the University of Glasgow and graduated with a Ph.D. with a specialty in Carboniferous foraminifera and carbonate petrology in 1965.
Neil came to Canada in 1966 and obtained a position with Texaco Exploration supervising and developing the companys exploration research capabilities. In 1970 Neil became District Geologist for Northwest Territories and the Arctic Islands, a challenging position involving an extensive array of structural and stratigraphic plays as well as undertaking some of the last field programs run by the Company in the Arctic and the Yukon.
